Green Tea: Bones and fracture healing!

Cigarette smoking is linked to oxidative stress (OS) that leads to several problems associated with it. One among them is drop in fracture healing efficiency.  The Reactive oxygen species (ROS) formed during OS are believed to damage osteoblasts, mononucleate cells that are responsible for bone formation. Multiple studies have shown a significant difference in the healing time of bone between groups of smokers and non-smokers. In a recent study published by Nina Holzer and team, cigarette smoking medium (CSM) treated osteoblasts were tested for viability under Co-, pre-, and post-incubation with Green Tea Extracts and tea catechins. In their inference they have suggested, green tea to have beneficial effects on bone homeostasis, fracture healing, and bone mineral density.
